Introducing Morrison
Utility Services

Morrison Utility Services delivers a range of essential infrastructure services to the utilities, transport, data and telecom sectors across the UK and Ireland. They were looking to modernise the fleet and asset management systems used for their Thames Water operation and chose AssetGo. The system has helped Morrison Utility Services to move away from paper-based processes, using digital inspections and defect reporting, which has improved efficiencies, lowered risk and reduced costs.

Morrison Utility
Services challenge

Morrison Utility Services realised that their fleet and workshop management systems and processes within their Thames Water operation required updating. They were using a combination of paper-based forms for inspections and defect reporting, with manual document scanning onto shared drive storage and Excel spreadsheets for monitoring different areas of compliance.

Tom Hardiman, Transport Manager, Morrison Utility Services explained: “We previously used manual folder storage in a shared drive and paper defect forms. A very dated paper, photocopy, file, scan, file again system.”

The management process was inefficient and open to errors. It made managing compliance difficult, particularly as they have a wide and varied range of assets within their fleet.

Tom continued: “With several spreadsheets monitoring several different areas of compliance it was hard to encompass all of the data. The manual filing and review of compliance meant we were not efficient in monitoring defects. We were looking for an electronic defect reporting system that highlights defects and nonconformities.”

In summary, Morrison Utility Services had experienced the following challenges:

  • Monitoring the compliance of their varied fleet of assets was difficult
  • Methods were open to human error increasing financial risk
  • Vital accident report information could be missed, leaving them open to liability
  • Time-consuming inefficient manual processes
  • Reliant on insecure documentation that could be corrupted

Paper-based reporting meant:

  • Misreporting of issues due to admin errors
  • The possibility of lost or spoiled records

Tom Hardiman concluded: “AssetGo has made us more efficient at managing our fleet and defects. We now have a good process for evidencing the closing out of defects.

AssetGo’s defect reporting and push messaging has been key to making our defect monitoring more efficient and fully compliant.”
